Program Notes

Suite for Piano was composed in my first year at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The work was my first significant attempt to merge the stylistic worlds of minimalism, rock, and romanticism. There are three untitled movements to the suite, structured fast-slow-fast. While the more cerebral aspects of my compositional technique were yet undeveloped in the piece, the visceral element is prevalent throughout. Suite for Piano would lay the foundation for a variety of harmonic and rhythmic gestures that would continue to crop up in my later works.
